Google & Beyond
The article Google and Beyond by Joanna Safford from the Smart Computing & Consumer Electronics magazine talks about how Google is the most commonly used search engine. She has a point because when people want you to look something up, a lot of people just say "Google it". In the article she mentions some other search engines like Cuil, Yahoo, Ask, Katapulco, and Dogpile. She mentions the difference between those search engines and google. In the article she mentions some websites that are alternate search engines that are used for searching for a subject within limited Topical engine. Some examples she mentioned are Tunefind that is used for finding songs that were on movies or tv shows, Quotiki that is used to find clever quotes, and WhatsOpen is used to search for cities for local business hours of operation. This article mentioned some really interesting search engines I've never used before, you should try to check them out!

I think i will be using dogpile a lot more due to its unique way of "fetching" info from all sites
I think that I will explore the other search engines and see which one I like best.
Do you think that after reading this article and learning about many different search engines that you will maybe start using some of these instead of just Google?
I found that very interesting. I have never heard of some of those search engines. My favorite was dogpile and I am going to try it out soon!
So I never heard of Cuil or katapulco. I'm definitely going to check them out now. And I love the fact that dogpile.com has a search and rescue part to their mission. Awwww....I wonder if Sarah McLaughlin works for them? Oh No! Is that the "Sad Puppy Dog Song" I hear? Waaaahhhhh

I like that DogPile puts some of it's funds toward rescue operations. Some of the other search engines seem nice, but personally I prefer Google. Besides, every time I download anything from Yahoo, my computer gets swept with viruses. Be it the messenger or the toolbar, my computer gets infected, so I only use Yahoo for mail. But even at that, I'm starting to admire Google's gmail better.
I think it is very interesting that Dogpile donates proceeds to search and rescue.

i believe its true that google is used more. But i think that's because not many other research websites isn't broadcast through every thing in the world like google is. nice presentation :] <3

This is sooo true, because I've never heard of dogpile or cuil in my entire life. My first thought is always google, I think that I am going to have to start trying out new search sites like the two i listed above. I enjoyed your article! (:
I love this article for two different reasons. Because Joanna makes some really good points that no one even bothers to try different search engines, or well at least i don't and I probably should incorporate that into my internet time. The other reason is that I'm excited to try Tunefind because I always try to look for soundtracks and TV show songs and it's sometimes hard to find on Google because some songs aren't that well known. Thanks for enlightening me Ashley!

The problem is, Google has a strangle hold over all the other search engines. It is also established as the main search engine for most people already.

That was a pretty good presentation. I will still probably just stick to Google, though.
@Curtis: No the article was written to present that their are other search engines that might get the search for something done more efficiently.
