YouTube Videos A Scam? Or Not?

Tim, Hayley and McKayla's blog post mentions that people might think the video one watches advertising a product on YouTube could be seen as a scam. Good point. How do you determine whether or not a video that you see is a scam or not? Isn't that sort of the same when we see information online every day? How do we know that what we see is legit? Remember when we watched the Blendtec videos? Do you think some people thought that was a scam? Thoughts?

Ya I personally think half the videos on YouTube are a scam. I think that a lot of the videos are phoney and well the BlendTech videos can you really blend an arubix cube? Like really not too sure if that's plausable. Probably a scam.

It's hard to tell what's a scam and what isn't on the internet. While most of the time you can use common sense to figure out if something is legit, there's master scam artists out there just waiting to screw you over. You just gotta watch your back is all, and if you hve to question if something is serious or not, most likely, it isn't.

When I watch videos for products on YouTube I usually never believe they are real, I usually just think that are suppose to be funny. I guess the truth is you really can't tell if a product is real or fake. Maybe you can tell if it has a copyrighted sticker? I'm not a 100% certain but I think most products of YouTube are suppose to be put there for entertainment.

I don't think you'd really know if it's a scam or not, most of the time the only way to find out is to purchase the product or some how get involved with what is going on. Then if it's legit and you recieve the product and it actually works if not then it may be a scam. But you'd never truly know.

i think that it would be hard to tell if i was a real advertisment or not. so i guess you have to be careful in picking what your going to buy, look at every little detail.

The way I would determine if a video is legit or not is, look up review of the product and read the comments. Also you can see if they have an actual website. If I watched the Bledtec video at home, I would have definitely thought it was a scam. I would have gone on Google and searched the product to see if it was real.

Of course YouTube has some fake videos advertising things. Especially the Blendtec videos! I don't think those were real at all because why would you even want to blend half the things that he decided to blend? You can't really know for sure if somethings fake, I don't think, but you can use your common sense.

I don't believe anything i read in magazines or on the internet because you never know whats to really believe. When it comes to YouTube videos, its the same concept. I think that the sillier the video, the less people are going to believe it. The Blendtec videos seemed like they were just bored people with a blender. I didn't take it seriously at all. I really think that to be able to take anything seriously u need some kind of way to really grab the viewers attention and make them KNOW that it's for real

I disagree. I find it easy to tell the difference between a video that uses humor to market a product and a video selling a fake product. Usually the fake products are way to over the top and ridiculous. But if you are ever confused if a product was real or not you could always look at their other videos and see if they are jokes videos or if they have more to do with the product. I also think that the word "misleading" would be better to describe a video featuring a fake product, since they aren't ripping you off.
