Why isn’t the apparel industry environmentally friendly?

Why isn’t the apparel industry environmentally friendly?
The apparel industry is damaging the world everyday. According to this article, the apparel industry has been damaging the atmosphere transporting their clothes and products back and fourth over and over across the world. This releases too much carbon from boats, trucks, and planes into the air killing the atmosphere. Also, many apparel industries use techniques for making leathers that give off toxic wastes. On top of that they waste a lot of paper materials killing trees on making multiple tags for every product and filling shoes with paper. The apparel industry isn't as smart as they should be for the environment.

Well, Nick basically said everything in the article about this. They don't make their products in environmentally friendly ways. This is done because it is cheaper to do things that aren't that good for the environment. The companies don't really care about the environment, they just want to make money. If they had to choose between doing something that would pollute a river or something that would keep it clean but cost twice as much they would choose to pollute it every time. The only reason they might not do something that hurts the environment is if it hurts their image, thus reducing sales, meaning they make less money. It's all just about money. That's also why they are sending jobs out to third world countries and pay their workers there next to nothing. The article briefly mentioned this a few times but never went into detail. To companies the only green that matters is money.

Well both of you have said what I planned on saying. Companies don't now, nor have they ever cared about anything but their profits. They will continue to carelessly pollute the environment until all we are breathing is exhaust from ships, trains, and trucks as long as they can save some money in doing so. It has been shown over the past 100 years that companies almost always resist anything that will cause them to lose money even if it is for the good of the planet. In the end companies cannot be trusted to change on their own, we must make them.

PS: I like the socialism in your post dawesome.

Simply stated, the companies make these products with such disregard for the environment to save a few dollars. In effect this act of greed can only affect the environment negatively. I personally believe that regulations should be set for the amount of toxic products that are included in clothes. If there is an index it needs to be immediately increased to prevent further damage to the environment.
